Microsoft continues to develop the segment of cloud
technologies, and their new research project deals with VR-devices.
Recently it became known that MS is working on Project
Irides, a research project that should improve the performance of VR devices
using Kawahi technology. If you do not go into details, the point is to drop
some of the calculations to the cloud, improving the quality of the images, and
then stream them to the device itself.
Kawahi uses predictive graphic processing that predicts
player behavior and renders certain parts of the image in a higher quality
based on where the player is supposed to be looking.
After testing the technology on Doom 3, it is noted that the
participants were impressed and noted a significant difference in quality,
delay and overall sensations when using such rendering in VR.
