Microsoft became No. 1 in Russia among foreign cloud providers


The volume of the market of cloud services in Russia in 2016 amounted to about 29 billion rubles. Leading positions - 46% of the market - took Russian developers of cloud solutions. The share of foreign cloud vendors exceeded 30%. In this segment, the main player was Microsoft with a share of 29%. At the same time, 48% of respondents believe that the corporation has made the biggest breakthrough in the development of cloud technologies over the past two years.

Microsoft in cloud leaders

The Russian market of cloud services in 2016 amounted to about p29 billion, according to a study by the analytical center Tadviser. In the structure of the Russian market, the main share with 46% is occupied by local developers, who distribute their services both independently and with the help of partners - resellers and integrators. The share of foreign vendors of cloud solutions in Russia exceeds 30%, and integrators account for 23% of the market.

Among Western vendors, the main player, according to the research, in 2016 was Microsoft with a portfolio of cloud services Microsoft Azure, Office 365, etc., which accounted for about a third of revenue (29%). The second and third places are occupied by IBM (18%) and Salesforce (14%). At the same time, 48% of respondents believe that Microsoft has made the biggest breakthrough in the development of cloud technologies over the past two years.


Some details about the state of the market

The study also showed that in Russia the cloud is most in demand in the segments of retail, Internet services, FMCG and industry. Active penetration occurs in the IT company, telecom, transport and logistics. 64% of respondents already use cloud services. Those who chose foreign providers and are willing to disclose their partner are most often mentioned by Microsoft (55%), Amazon (21%) and Google (16%).


According to the survey, the vast majority of respondents (67%) plan to switch to cloud services in the next six months or a year, of which 37% - in six months. It is significant that, despite all the fears associated with the risks of data loss, 57% of respondents see in the clouds the security guarantee provided by providers. First of all, these are representatives of medium-sized businesses (including Internet retail), as well as Internet services and IT companies that are familiar with the requirements and conditions for compliance with the SLA (service level agreement).

The dominant criteria for selecting a supplier during the survey were the cost of the service (67%), as well as experience in using the service in the industry or in a similar company to solve similar business problems (55%). Microsoft tops the list of the most recognizable foreign cloud providers: 47% of respondents mentioned the vendor, followed by Amazon (29%), Google third (19%).

The methodology of its evaluation in Tadviser is described as an office-field study, including the study of analytical reports of international and Russian research companies, as well as online and phone surveys. The sample included more than 800 respondents, experts were made by the heads of organizations, CIOs and IT specialists, managers responsible for business development.
